UNITED STATES – Lance Armstrong is facing calls to pull out of his campaign to restore his public image after testing positive for remorse enhancing substances.
Following a televised confession to Oprah, the disgraced cyclist was subject to a random drugs test where traces of the banned substances including what looked like Remorsaderm were found in his system.
Armstrong has denied any wrongdoing and vowed to continue his campaign with an appearance on The View next week.
Here we go again
Random drug testing has become a regular part of Oprah interviews since Tom Cruise was found to have “dangerous” levels of a still undetermined but almost certainly illegal substance in him during his interview.
It’s thought that Armstrong was injected prior to Oprah interview to induce required levels of shame to produce a heartfelt and human like performance.
He now faces serious questions over whether he used banned substances to enhance his appearance of remorse during his interview with the television host.
The American put the positive result down to natural levels of remorse coursing through his veins after years of lies.
“There’s no way I was remorse doping,” Armstrong reiterated. “I’m just really really sorry. Really.”
“It takes a lot of skill and determination. The ability to look into the camera and seem like I still have a shred of my humanity left after so many years of deceit?”
“That’s down to hours of tough media training.”
‘He’s let Oprah down’
Lance Armstrong’s powerful two and a half hour confession interview had alerted some viewers to the possibility he was under the influence of remorse-enhancing drugs.
“You can’t watch something like that and not wonder,” said Felicia Hutchinson. “I’m sure he was really sorry about what he did…but that sorry? I was skeptical.”
However, while experts say making that level of apology without remorse-enhancing drugs would be difficult, it is not impossible according to professor Malcolm Xavier.
“What we must understand is this is a man who has lied and cheated his way through the last 13 years.”
“When you go that long without an honest moment, the body will naturally store remorse and this can build up in the body if not given a proper outlet.”
“If let out all at once it can appear as if the person is under the influence of remorse-enhancing substances.”
Professor Xavier later added: “On the other hand…he probably was on drugs.”
