HOLLYWOOD – Kate Middleton has received a late Oscar nomination for her performance as someone actually impressed with Kate Middleton’s self-portrait.
With the 85th awards just over a month away, the Duchess of Cambridge’s “brief but brilliant” acting performance was given the late nod from after offering what seemed like genuine praise to the Paul Emsley painting.
“It’s was a performance that had everything,” according to many Hollywood insiders.
‘5 stars, a must see’
Despite being faced with a piece of art that looks like Kate Middleton as much as Lance Armstrong looks at the Tour De France rulebook, the Duchess was able to utter the single line that sent critics into a frenzy: “It’s amazing.”
“Kate’s performance was…To. Die. For!” Declared critic Tim Robey. “This was a performance that truly had everything.”
“The way she delivered positive words over such a bland and unrepresentative portrait with a straight face was remarkable.”
“And all in one take. Marvelous!”
In a level of commitment previously displayed by Daniel Day Lewis, the duchess is even said to have continued complimenting Emsley’s work when the cameras were turned off.
Indeed, actors far and wide continue to heap praise on the duchess with fellow British actor Keira Knightley claiming she was even more impressed with the performance after seeing the painting.
“The more I see that ghastly painting the better her acting gets,” said Knightley who admitted she have struggled to deliver the line so convincingly.
“I would have needed two takes at least but Kate knocked it out of the park in one.”
Virtuoso performance
Even with her newcomer tag, many believe she could give more experienced actors a run for their money come Oscar Night.
“She have every chance of coming home with the award,” was the glowing verdict from husband Prince William. “I mean, you saw the painting…it was terrible.”
“Kate almost made me believe the painting was good. Almost.”
There was bad news for British Oscar hopes however as Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg missed out on a nomination for best actor for his acting role as a necessary member of the coalition government.
It’s the fifth year in a row the Liberal Democrat leader has been passed up despite some very convincing performances.
