SERBIA – In what is being called a ‘brutal’ verdict by the International Criminal Tribunal, Ratko Mladic has been extradited to the set of Jersey Shore, where he is to face punishment after being found guilty of war crimes.
Accused of ‘grave acts against humanity’, judges have deemed it acceptable to forgo a traditional trial and instead sentence the former Bosnian Serb army chief to a permanent position in the cast of the reality TV show.
Labelled the ‘Butcher of Bosnia’, Mladic managed to evade justice for 16 years, but will now receive a punishment that fits the crime according to many.
His lawyer said Mladic could be seen weeping as he was taken to be transported to join the cast following the verdict.
Jersey Sentence
His extradition came just hours after a legal bid to be freed, claiming he was not mentally fit enough to survive any length of time “trapped with those cretans.”
The Security Council dismissed the claim however, arguing that the mental instability would mean he’d fit right in with the members of the MTV produced show.
“Today is a day to celebrate,” said one member of the Tribunal panel. “Finally this madman is being sent where he belongs, locked up with the rest of God’s mistakes.”
The sentence however, has left some human right activists wondering whether the crime fits the punishment.
“I was there in ‘95,” recalled Mohammad Habeeb. “I escaped by the skin of my teeth so I know the horrors this man is capable of…but I’ve also seen this programme and these horrible people. Surely there are more humane forms of justice?”
Death by Snooki
General Mladic’s former partner in alleged war crimes, Radovan Karadzic, was said to be distraught after hearing of the punishment handed to him for partner.
The pair were charged with a joint responsibility for crimes against humanity during the 44-month siege of Sarajevo and genocide for the massacre of 8,000 Muslims in Srebrenica.
The Jersey Shore cast are also guilty of crimes against humanity – genocide relating the the death of at least 100 million brain cells of the viewers from 2009 to the present day.
According to his defence lawyer, Karadzic was “genuinely sorry to hear of the arrest. He knows of the Jersey Shore and he knows what is like to be held in the detention unit. It is better to be in the detention unit.
