ALASKA – Former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has come under increased pressure from comedians to run for president following the shock announcement by Donald Trump to withdraw from the race.
Stand-ups, late night hosts and satirists have already begged Trump to reconsider his decision, but the media mogul has remained steadfast in his decision to spend more time being a joke with his family.
His withdrawal is a heavy blow to an industry still reeling from the loss of George W. Bush as president, which resulted in an estimated two million jokes a year to go unmade.
Save the industry
President Obama was also disappointed to see the Apprentice host do something sensible as he “was looking forward to being entertained by Trump’s antics.”
The resulting comedic void is one many feel can now only be filled by Palin entering the race for Republican nominee.
Those who make their living from hilarity have all called for Sarah Palin to “reload in the face of adversity and give us something new to laugh at.”
The former governor of Alaska is also receiving backing from supporters of the Mayan 2012 prophecy who see her as the last chance of ensuring the end times scenario is facilitated.
“The news about Donald is a real shame,” said comedian John Stewart. “Romney is kinda funny and John McCain’s ability to be old was great, but Trump had that X-Factor that made my job so so easy.”
“If Sarah doesn’t make it we will have to start taking the Republican race seriously.”
Late night host Conan O Brian is faced with having to throw out 12 pages worth of monologues and shelve his famed Trump impression.
“We’re all looking for Sarah to say those magic words to make us laugh out loud: ‘I am running for President of the United States’.”
‘It’s all on her now’
Already, there is talk of Tila Tequila being asked to declare a presidential run as a comedic contingency. The celebrity has a reality show and would make a terrible president, so could fit the bill.
With the Wasila native yet to make a decision, it could be troubling times ahead should she decide not to run. Stewart was understandably concerned: “We can still make Bin Laden jokes, but who knows how long that can sustain us.”
“She knows how important her involvement in politics is to our industry. I don’t think she’ll turn her back on being a laughing stock.”
