Our correspondent is outside the courtroom with more on the drama.
[Chief Correspondent] Josh, is the case still being heard?
[US Correspondent] Yes, I’m outside the Hollywood courtroom where this landmark moment in presidential history is taking place in front of a live studio audience.
[Chief Correspondent] Just explain why former president Bush has taken this action?
[US Correspondent] He feels the ‘repeated and flagrant’ infringement of the Bush Administration’s signature ideas, methods and plans have become too much to ignore. The prosecution will seek to prove President Obama is engaging in IP infringement without express permission.
[Chief Correspondent] Now many people are asking the question–
[US Correspondent] I know I know, how someone with such little command of the English language was able to draft legal papers fit for a TV judge.
[Chief Correspondent] …I was actually going to ask why make this move now? But now that you mention it, how was he able to prepare this case?
[US Correspondent] It’s thought that former Vice President Dick Cheney has aided legal efforts.
[Chief Correspondent] What about Karl Rove?
[US Correspondent] Though Mr Rove was not scheduled to be here, I have word that he had to be escorted from the building. It seems his presence was unsettling the children in the audience.
[Chief Correspondent] How will President Obama be approaching the trial?
[US Correspondent] The defense have said they will seek to prove that any infringement is fair use as President of the United States and that his alleged infringement —which, remember, he maintains he did not engage in— “has not caused any additional harm to the Bush Administration, other than what George Bush has already done”.
[Chief Correspondent] This is all fascinating. How’s the trial going?
[US Correspondent] I…haven’t been able to enter courtroom at this stage.
[Chief Correspondent] The security must be very tight for the meeting of such high profile individuals?
[US Correspondent] No, I just couldn’t get tickets for the show. Sorry.
[Chief Correspondent] Have you tried putting your ear to the door?
[US Correspondent] Yes and I could hear Dick Cheney is growing increasingly agitated for some reason and has been called a ‘moron’ on two separate occasions by the Judge…she’s hot when she gets angry.
[Chief Correspondent] I’m sure. What does President Bush look to gain from legal action?
[US Correspondent] He’ll likely seek statutory damages from the Obama Administration, believed to be $15,000 per infringement with a licensing deal to be put in place that will see members of the prosecution receive that sum for each idea Obama uses in the future.
[Chief Correspondent] That could add up to millions. He does know Judge Judy deals with small claims only?
[US Correspondent] …That would explain the moron comment.
[Chief Correspondent] This could be very damaging for the prosecution?
[US Correspondent] It could certainly derailed his case…but small like this never stopped their pursuit of justice before.
[Chief Correspondent] Good point. Keep us up to date with the latest developments on this important event.
